Skills for Life Professional Development Planning

- Resources to support the work of Skills for Life professional development planners

The fourth edition of the Skills for Life professional development planning pack was launched by the Improvement Programme in February 2008.

The Skills for Life strategy (2001) promised better training for teachers, tutors and trainers and those supporting learners with language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) needs.  As a result, providers in the lifelong learning sector are experiencing a time of rapid change and development in regulations and requirements for Skills for Life professionals.  Organisations are facing the challenge of producing clear, realistic, coherent plans for Skills for Life staff development.  This pack sets out to support Skills for Life professional development planners with professional development planning for their staff teams.

The pack offers:

  • activities for awareness raising sessions
  • materials to support staff qualifications audits
  • sample training plans for individuals
  • a case study of an organisation
  • sample organisation professional development plans
