The Skills for Life Improvement Programme sets a high priority on developing the knowledge, skills and experience of managers and teachers. At the same time resources are available to grow and strengthen teams of teacher educators and teacher trainers across regions. In 2007/08 the programme offers you:

• Get qualified to teach literacy, numeracy or ESOL
• Support for teacher education programmes - Creative routes to qualification as literacy, numeracy and ESOL specialist teachers 
• Training the teacher trainers - opportunities for experienced teachers to become teacher trainers and for professional development for experienced teacher trainers
• Mentoring for teacher training programmes - opportunities for literacy, numeracy and ESOL specialist mentors to develop their skills for mentoring and reflective practice
• CPD for organisations - opportunities for organisations to apply to host professional development events
• General Professional Recognition Learning and Skills (GPRLS) -recognition for experienced and skilled practitioners
• Information and advice - Skills for Life professional development planning (PDP) for organisations and individuals

The workforce development aspect of the Skills for Life Improvement programme is led by the National Research and Development Centre for Adult Literacy and Numeracy (NRDC), working together with LLU+ at London South Bank University and the University of Wolverhampton.
